Uplinger, Sidney Dobbins, Binotto Pace Fighting Scots to 10-7 Win at Walsh

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) CANTON, Ohio – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team evened its record at 1-1 with a 10-7 win at Walsh on Wednesday. It marked the second straight game for the Fighting Scots against a highly-regarded team from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Walsh was playing its season opener and fell to 0-1.

On Sunday, Edinboro suffered a narrow 11-10 loss at G-MAC preseason favorite Findlay, and Walsh came in picked to finish third in the conference.

Mary Uplinger paced the Fighting Scots with a career-high 4 goals, while Sidney Dobbins matched her career high with 3 goals. Sophie DePalma, who had a career-best 5 goals at Findlay, added a goal and 3 assists. Hailey Dobbins and Gionna Allesandro added a goal apiece. Junior Kaitlyn Binotto picked up her first career win in goal, finishing with 12 saves.

Kendra Cowen-Tripp and Hannah McFeeters led Walsh with 2 goals apiece.  Rebecca Tomaszewski had 9 saves in goal.

Walsh opened the scoring on a goal by Emily Atwood at 29:16. Edinboro would answer with a pair of goals. The first was by Allessandro, a transfer from Wheeling who scored her first goal as a Fighting Scot, at 27:05. Uplinger scored her goal on a free position shot at 20:51 for a 2-1 lead.

The Cavaliers would knot the match at 2-2 at 17:57, but Edinboro would take the lead for good with three straight goals. Sidney Dobbins' free position goal gave Edinboro a 3-2 lead at 16:23, and Uplinger followed with goals at 15:54 and 7:32.

Walsh would pull to within 5-4 with back-to-back goals, but Edinboro stunned the Cavaliers with three goals in the final 65 seconds. Hailey Dobbins scored at 1:05, DePalma added a goal with 19 seconds left, and Sidney Dobbins scored her second goal at the buzzer to give Edinboro an 8-4 lead.

The scoring would slow in the second half. Edinboro boosted its lead to 10-4 with a pair of goals in the first eight minutes. Sidney Dobbins accounted for the first at 23:25, and Uplinger followed with her fourth goal at 22:20.

Walsh would score three goals to pull to within three, but Binotto held off the Cavaliers despite a 19-8 advantage in shots for Walsh in the second half. Walsh would hold a slight edge, 27-24, at the end of the contest.

Edinboro returns to action on Saturday, February 29 hosting West Virginia Wesleyan in the home opener.
