Edinboro soccer celebrates senior night; defeats Behrend in scrimmage

EDINBORO, Pa. - The Edinboro soccer team hosted Penn State Behrend on Saturday, March 27 as the program was able to host senior day for the graduating class of 2021. The Fighting Scots were able to come away with the victory by a score of 4-0.

Goals came by way of Britt Spithaler and by Rebecca Manns who recorded a hat trick in her final collegiate game. Anna Voelker got the nod in goal and recorded a shutout for the Fighting Scots.

Edinboro celebrated the collegiate careers and accomplishments of seniors Brittany Hurey, Kara Kern, Rebecca Manns, and Marisa Zupen who appeared in their last collegiate action last Saturday. The program also included Cameron Bujnoski, Leah Czechowski, Jenna Derbis, Maggie Fragapane, and Marissa Shields in festivities who were also a part of the 2021 recruiting class for Edinboro soccer. However, they will be returning to school for the 2021-2022 school year to continue their collegiate careers.

Marisa Zupen is a Nursing major with a minor in Biology from Pittsburgh, Pa. Marisa has played in 22 games in her career as a midfielder, scoring one goal. She is a PSAC and Edinboro University Scholar Athlete. 

Brittany Hurey will soon hold dual degrees in early childhood and special education with a minor in dyslexia interventions. Overall, she appeared in forty-four matches at the forward position and has been honored as both a PSAC and Edinboro University scholar-athlete. She scored two goals and dished out an assist during her collegiate career.

Kara Kern was the next senior celebrated and soon, she will hold an exercise science degree from Edinboro. Kern appeared in 27 games and scored one goal in her college career. She earned distinction as both an Edinboro and PSAC Scholar during her collegiate soccer career. 

Rebecca Manns is a dual major in physics and chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry. She is also completing a minor in biology and mathematics. Manns played in 55 matches and made 52 starts as a forward. She finished her collegiate career with 14 goals and 19 assists in total. Her biggest goal for the Fighting Scots was a game winner over West Chester in 2019 that sent the Fighting Scots to the PSAC finals. She has also been honored as a PSAC and Edinboro-Scholar Athlete. 

Ashley Bayer was also honored and graduated in December of 2020 with a degree in business administration with a concentration in personal financial planning. She has started her career as a financial planner in Mayfield, Ohio. During her time with the Fighting Scots, she appeared in 34 games and made 11 starts. She talled one goal and three assists and also was honored as both a PSAC and Edinboro Scholar-Athlete during her playing days.
