Erie, Pa. -- The Edinboro volleyball team will travel 22 miles north for round two with the Mercyhurst Lakers on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The Scots defeated the Lakers at home in three sets back on Sept. 23.
Six-To-Go
The Scots enter the week with a (6-4) conference record and (16-6) overall. With only six games remaining until postseason play, The Scots currently sit in fourth place in a tight PSAC West race. IUP and Edinboro both share the same conference record after the Scots defeated the Crimson Hawks on Saturday night, while splitting the regular season series. Edinboro's one extra loss in their regular season record is what is holding back them in the fourth spot. The six remaining matches are crucial for Edinboro's postseason ranking.
Offense
Edinboro's attack continues to be a consistent piece of their game as they average 12.3 kills per set. The Scots' hitting percentage has remained effective, a (.206) team clip has placed them in the top five of the conference. Bella Burrelli and Natalie Pallone have proven match after match that they can lead Edinboro attack. Burrelli leads the team with 224 kills on a (.143) clip. Pallone follows her with 201 kills on the season while obtaining a (.207) clip.
Setter Alicia Eldredge has been Edinboro's go-to facilitator this season with a team-high 688 assists. Eldredge has now moved into fourth place in the PSAC for assists as she averages 8.94 assists per set.
Defense
Blocks have been the backbone of Edinboro's defense this season. Boro is third in the PSAC with 1.94 blocks per set, with only Slippery Rock and Shepherd averaging more. Sally Sterkel leads the team with 69 blocks on the season while averaging (0.90) per set.
Edinboro is also third in digs, as they are among the best in the conference with only Gannon and Slippery Rock averaging more. On the season, the Scots have went for 1,313 digs and average 17.05 per set. Carly Pry leads the team with 352 on the year while averaging 4.76 per set.
Mercyhurst
Mercyhurst is a member of the PSAC West and is led by head coach Ryan Patton. The Lakers come into the match with a (3-16) overall record and (1-9) in conference play. Mercyhurst has dropped eleven of their last twelve matches, as their previous win came against Pitt-Johnstown back on Oct. 8. In the loss to Edinboro earlier this season, Burrelli led with 12 kills, while Sterkel posted seven blocks on the defensive end. Kate Hennessy leads Mercyhurst with 152 kills (2.27 per set). Zoe Gadomski leads the Lakers with 225 digs (3.36 per set).
