Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro wheelchair basketball team opens up their 2022-23 season on Saturday and Sunday with the Boro Shootout at McComb Fieldhouse.
The Scots finished last season winning three of their last five games and will look to build on that success to open 2022-23.
"We open the Boro Shootout with five teams that are very similar to us," said head coach
Jim Glatch. "We are still very young with a group of seven freshman and three sophomores."
Edinboro will turn to that trio of sophomores to provide leadership to the squad as they bring the newcomers up to speed.
"
Jeremy Evans and
Isaiah Johnson really finished last season strong for us," Glatch continued. "Jeremy has matured and is really acting the part of our captain this year. He is truly a leader on and off the court. Jeremy was our leading scorer last year and I expect that from him again this season."
"Isaiah [Johnson] being in his first full season, is someone we expect 15-20 points from a game," said Glatch. "He's a really explosive scorer and
Elijah Yoder is that third sophomore and while he may not score a ton of points he does all the little things it takes to win."
The Scots open the season on Saturday against London at 9:45 a.m. before taking on Cleveland at 11:30 a.m. They round out the opening day of the Shootout with Pittsburgh at 3:00 p.m.
On Sunday, Edinboro hosts Orland at 11:45 a.m. and the University of Michigan at 1:30 p.m. All games are in McComb Fieldhouse. All contests will also be streamed
here.
"We want to see improvement game to game in this tournament," said Glatch. "It is great to see how practice translates to game situations and if we see that improvement game to game in this tournament then we will have a successful weekend."
