Scots Hit the Road for Final Weekend of Regular Season

Edinboro, Pa. -- The Edinboro volleyball team will conclude their regular season this weekend when they travel to Clarion on Friday night for a 6 pm start and Saturday afternoon against host Pitt-Johnstown at 2 pm.  

Two-To-Go 

Edinboro enters the final weekend of the regular season with a (9-5) conference record and (19-7) overall. The Scots have been trending upwards as they hit the finish line and are winners of four of their last five matches. Edinboro has officially clinched a spot in the PSAC postseason tournament, but it has yet to be determined what seed they will receive. The Scots currently sit in the fourth spot out of the west, but there is an opportunity this weekend to surpass IUP for third place.  

The buzz around the Atlantic Region has continued to heat up this week with Edinboro's name mentioned among others. On Wednesday afternoon the weekly regional rankings had listed the Scots as the seventh best team in the Atlantic Region. Edinboro's remaining matches are crucial in their attempt to earn a bid for the regional tournament. 

Last weekend Edinboro had a successful final homestand with wins over Cal and Seton Hill. It was on Senior night where Alicia Eldredge had surpassed multiple career milestones. After being recognized with her four other senior teammates, Eldredge went on to surpass 1,000 career digs and 400 career kills. As the team's primary facilitator Eldredge also finished the match with a team-high 38 assists. In the team's final two regular season matches this weekend, there is a strong chance that she will hit 800 assists for the season. 

Eldredge is finding success at facilitating at such a high volume because she has two teammates in the top 15 in the conference for kills. Bella Burrelli and Natalie Pallone have continued to make a strong impact this season with their ability to swing. Burrelli averages 3.05 kills per set with 281 total kills during the season. Burrelli has begun to heat up in her last six matches as she is averaging almost 15 kills per match on an efficient (.241) clip. Pallone has been even better in her second year for Edinboro as she averages 2.63 kills per set on a (.212) clip. 

Senior Sally Sterkel is having a career year in the blocks department as she averages (0.91) blocks per set. Sterkel's 84 block this season is a career high for her and puts her in the top ten in the conference. Senior Erica Sharp makes up the other side of the net for Edinboro and is second in blocks. Sharp has produced 66 blocks on the year while averaging (0.73) per set. 

Edinboro's dig leader is Carly Pry who comes into the weekend with 415 digs on the year while averaging 4.66 per set. Pry is ranked in the top ten of the conference for digs and is nearing 1,000 for her career as she currently sits with 823. 

Clarion 

The Golden Eagles come into the match with a (13-1) conference record and (23-2) overall. Clarion is ranked first in the PSAC and was also given the nod as the top team in the region in this week's rankings. The Golden Eagles have won their last three matches after being swept by Cal. 

Edinboro and Clarion competed against each other earlier this season back on Oct. 8. The Golden Eagles bested Edinboro at McComb Fieldhouse in three sets. Clarion finished with more kills, assists, digs and blocks. For Clarion, Cassidy Snider led all players with 13 kills, and she also added 17 digs. For Edinboro, Alicia Eldredge finished with 21 assists and 17 digs. 

Clarion is first in the conference for kills (14.64 per set), assists (13.11 per set) and hitting percentage (.266). London Fuller leads the conference with 944 assists while averaging (11.37 per set). Cassidy Snider leads the conference with 254 kills (4.23 per set). 

Pitt-Johnstown 

The Mountain Cats come into the match with a (1-13) conference record and (8-20) overall. Pitt-Johnstown is ranked eighth in the PSAC West and is only ahead of Mercyhurst. The Mountain Cats have dropped their last four matches, as their only conference win this year came against Seton Hill in five sets. 

Edinboro and Pitt-Johnstown competed against each other earlier this season back on Oct. 7. The Fighting Scots bested the Mountain Cats at McComb Fieldhouse in three sets. Edinboro finished with more kills, assists, digs and aces on an impressive (.197) hitting percentage. Alicia Eldredge dropped in a team-high 29 assists along with ten digs. For Pitt-Johnstown, Abi Leitner finished with eight kills.  

Pitt-Johnstown is sixth in the conference for blocks (1.80 per set) and hitting percentage (.187). Mallory Pinske leads the Mountain Cats with 166 kills while averaging (1.78 per set). Gabi DeRenzo is Pitt-Johnstown's digs leader with 322 (3.74 per set) on the year.
