Women’s Basketball Makes Trip to Gannon on Saturday

Erie, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team hits the road Saturday for a PSAC West contest against Gannon at 1 p.m.
 
Last Time Out
The Fighting Scots improved to 12-6 overall and 9-4 in the PSAC West after defeating visiting UPJ 76-55 Wednesday night inside McComb Fieldhouse. Edinboro forced 22 Mountain Cat turnovers and scored 27 points off of those turnovers. The Scots led 29-27 at the half, but used 7-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc to pull away in the second half.  Rana Elhusseini finished with 25 points, eight assists, four rebounds and four steals. Bella Burrelli added 18 points and six boards while Hayley Sims scored 11.
 
Honor Roll
Elhusseini picked up her second PSAC West Player of the Week award on Monday. She averaged 24.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game in the Scots victories over Slippery Rock and Clarion. She has continued her strong play through two game this week scoring 36 against IUP and 25 in the win over UPJ.
 
Taking the Ball Away
The Fighting Scots rank fifth in the nation in turnovers forced with 25.11 per contest. Edinboro took the ball away from UPJ 22 times which was their highest total since forcing 22 against Cal on Jan. 11. The Scots have a +8.4 turnover margin which ranks eighth in the nation. They also average 12.9 steals per game ranking ninth in the nation. Elhusseini ranks first in the PSAC and 13th in the country in steals per game at 2.89.
 
Putting Up Points
The Edinboro offense leads the PSAC at 76.7 points per game a mark that ranks 16th in the country. Elhusseini is the Scots leading scorer at 20.6 points per contest the second-best mark in the PSAC and ninth best average in the nation. Sims turns in 15.9 points per outing ranking eighth in the PSAC.
 
Beyond the Arc
The Fighting Scots have been a prolific 3-point shooting team. They rank fifth in the country in 3-pointers attempted at 29.9 per game. Edinboro ranks 10th in triples made per game at 9.4 per contest both of those numbers lead the PSAC. Elhusseini and Sims are both top five in PSAC 3-pointers per game. Elhusseini ranks second at 2.78 and Sims adds 2.44 per outing.
 
A Helping Hand
Elhusseini leads the Scots in assists and ranks fifth in the PSAC averaging 4.8 helpers per game. That average ranks 30th in the nation. Maura Suman leads the conference and ranks 29th in DII with a 2.44 assist to turnover ratio.
 
Scouting the Golden Knights
Gannon is 18-3 overall and 10-3 in PSAC West play after falling 87-72 to Seton Hill on Wednesday. Samantha Pirosko led the Gannon offense with 22 points as well as nine rebounds and two assists. Emma Wright added 21 points.
 
The Golden Knights average 71.0 points per game while holding opponents to 55.0. Gannon is outrebounding opponents by an average of 5.7 and also hold a 1.3 turnover margin. Pirosko is the Golden Knights' leading scorer averaging 18.8 per game to go with 7.9 boards. Wright is the other Gannon starter averaging double-figure scoring with 13.5 per outing.
