Women’s Basketball Hosts Shippensburg in PSAC Crossover Action

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team returns to McComb Fieldhouse for the first time since Dec. 19. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Last Time Out
The Fighting Scots won their fifth straight game on Wednesday 60-49 on the road at Mercyhurst.
 
The Edinboro defense held the Lakers to just 49 points which was 30 points less than Mercyhurst's season average. The Scots held the Lakers to just 2-of-20 shooting from beyond the arc.
 
Rana Elhusseini, Haley Sims and Gillian Fisher each scored 13 points for the Scots against the Lakers. Sims added 10 boards for her first double-double of the season.
 
Turnovers
The Fighting Scots rank second in Division II in turnovers forced per game at 29.1 just behind national leader Glenville State at 29.3. They are also the nation's third ranked team in turnover margin at +11.4.  As a team, Edinboro ranks third in the country in steals per game with 15.5 just being Glenville State and Minnesota State at 16.6.
 
Elhusseini has led the Scots defensive effort ranking fifth in the country in steal per game at 3.5 per contest recording six against Bloomsburg on Friday.
 
Defense to Offense
Edinboro has successfully used their defense to lead to offense. The Scots average 28.7 points per game off of turnovers.
 
The Edinboro offense averages 77. points per game the second best mark in the PSAC and rank 17th in all of Division II.
 
The Scots have a pair of scorers in the Top 10 in the PSAC in Elhusseini and Sims. Elhusseini averages 18.6 points per game ranking second in the conference while Sims is ninth at 16.0 points per contest.
 
Behind the Arc
The Fighting Scots rank seventh in the nation in 3-pointers attempted per game at 29.0 per contest. They are seventh in D-II in triples made per game at 9.4 both marks top the PSAC. Edinboro is shooting 31.8 percent from long range the sixth best mark in the PSAC.
 
Elhusseini leads the team with 31 treys and is hitting 36.9 percent of her attempts. Sims adds 26 threes while Macie Jarrett has hit 15. Seven Fighting Scots have hit at least five 3-pointers.
 
Offensive Glass
Despite being 246th in the nation in rebounding margin at -5.0 per game and 257th in defensive rebounds the Fighting Scots have been strong on the offensive glass. Edinboro ranks 84th in the country and eighth in the PSAC with 13.2 offensive rebounds per outing.
 
Seven different Fighting Scots have 10 or more offensive rebounds on the season. Elhusseini and Ashten Boggs each have 18 offensive boards to lead Edinboro. Gentile has 15 offensive boards on the season.
 
Scouting the Raiders
Shippensburg ran their record to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC East after defeating East Stroudsburg 71-44 on Wednesday.
 
Ariel Jones had a record-breaking night going for 16 points and making 8-of-10 free throws set the PSAC free throws made record with 725 in her career. She also recorded seven rebounds, four helpers, two blocks and two steals. Treasure George and Lauren Pettis also scored in double-figures with 11 points each.
 
The Raiders average 70.4 points per game while holding opponents to 58.2 points game. Shippensburg has outrebounding opponents by a +4 margin.
 
Jones has paced the Shippensburg offense averaging a PSAC leading 22.1 points per game. She also adds 7.3 rebounds per game. George is the second leading scorer at 12.3 points per contest.
 
Pettis is the Raiders leading rebounder at 9.0 boards per game to go along with 10.8 points per contest.
