Women’s Basketball Host Gannon on Wednesday

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team returns to McComb Fieldhouse on Wednesday when they host Gannon at 5:30 p.m.
 
Last Time Out
The Fighting Scots slipped to 15-10 overall and 12-8 in the PSAC West after dropping an 80-53 decision to Pitt-Johnstown Saturday afternoon. Bella Burrelli paced the Edinboro offense going for 15 points as well as four rebounds and a block. Hayley Sims tallied 13 points and four rebounds.
 
Forcing Turnovers
Edinboro ranks eighth in the nation in forced turnovers with opponents turning it over 23.0 times per contest. The Scots have a +6.3 turnover margin ranking 13th in the country with both marks leading the PSAC. Edinboro ranks 19th in D-II and first in the PSAC in steals per game 11.6 per game. Rana Elhusseini has led the charge averaging 2.5 steals per game ranking second in the PSAC and 37th in the nation.
 
Scoring Touch
Edinboro averages 74.2 points per game the second best mark in the PSAC and ranking 26th in the nation. Elhusseini ranks third in the PSAC in scoring with 19.1 points per game the 22nd best mark in the country. Hayley Sims checks in at 10th in the PSAC with 15.5 points per game.
 
Offensive Glass
The Fighting Scots have a -5.7 rebounding margin and rank 191st in defensive rebounding, but Edinboro has been strong on the offensive glass grabbing 13.2 offensive boards per game ranking fourth in the PSAC and 62nd in D-II. Burrelli ranks 11th in the PSAC with 2.8 offensive boards per contest.
 
Playoff Picture
The PSAC West postseason picture is still murky with just two regular season games remaining. Gannon has clinched the top seed in the West, but seven teams remain alive for the final five spots in the postseason. IUP currently are second in the West at 13-8 and have a bye on Wednesday. The Fighting Scots, Cal and UPJ are all tied at 12-8. The Vulcans and Mountain Cats play on Wednesday. Slippery Rock currently holds the sixth and final postseason spot tied with Mercyhurst at 10-10. Seton Hill is 10-11 and will play Mercyhurst in their final regular season game on Wednesday.
 
Hoops for Harlie
This will be the seventh annual Hoops for Harlie game host by Edinboro women's basketball. There will be a Chinese Auction, t-shirt sale and proceeds from the 50/50 drawing going toward the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor and memory of Harlie Bolt.
 
Scouting the Golden Knights
Gannon brings a 25-3 overall mark and 17-3 record in the PSAC West to McComb Fieldhouse after scoring an 84-80 road victory over Seton Hill Saturday afternoon.
 
Samantha Pirosko led the way for the Golden Knights with a double-double of 33 points and 14 rebounds. She also dished out a pair of assists. Emma Wright added 21 points, five boards and three helpers as the Golden Knights held off a late Seton Hill charge.
 
Gannon averages 73.3 points per game while holding opponents to just 57.6. The Golden Knights have also held an advantage on the baords with a +6 rebounding margin on the year.
 
Pirosko has led the way offensively for Gannon averaging 20.0 points per game while also pulling down a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game. Wright also averages double-figure scoring at 14.4 points per game.
