Women’s Basketball Host Cal in Key PSAC West Tilt

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team will play host to California (Pa.) Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
Last Time Out
The Fighting Scots rallied from three points down in the final minute to score a 61-60 victory over Mercyhurst Wednesday night. Morgan Gentile led the Scots with 15 points including the game-winning basket with 31 seconds to play. Hayley Sims added 14 points and five rebounds. Rana Elhusseini finished with 10 points and five boards.
 
Long Range Shooting
Edinboro ranks eighth in the country in 3-point field goal attempts at 27.8 per contest. The Scot hit 8.8 per game ranking 12th in Division II with both marks leading the PSAC. Elhusseini has been the Scots top 3-point shooter hitting 2.55 per contest the second-best average in the PSAC. Sims adds 2.25 per game the eighth best mark in the conference.
 
Stealing Possessions
The Fighting Scots defense leads the PSAC and ranks fifth in the country in forcing turnovers at 24.65 per contest. Edinboro also ranks highly in turnover margin ranking seventh in the nation at 7.8. Of those 24 turnovers per game the Scots record 12.7 steals per game the 12th best mark in D-II. Elhusseini ranks 17th in the country and first in the PSAC at 2.9 steals per game.   
 
Wild, Wild West
The Scots and Vulcans are currently tied for second in a bunched up PSAC West postseason race. Edinboro and Cal are currently two games back of conference leading Gannon. UPJ is fourth at 9-5 while IUP is fifth at 9-6. Seton Hill and Mercyhurst are tied for the sixth spot which would be the final postseason position. Slippery Rock is just one game back of the Lakers and the Griffins.
 
Offensive Glass
Edinboro has a -5.0 rebounding margin on the season and average 24.0 defensive rebounds per game both of which rank 15th in the PSAC. Where the Scots have excelled has been on the offensive glass where they rank second in the league averaging 13.9 per game.
 
Scoring the Basketball
On the season, Edinboro averages 75.2 points the second-best mark in the PSAC. Elhusseini currently ranks second in scoring average in the PSAC at 19.6. Sims ranks ninth in the conference at 15.6 points per game.
 
Scouting the Vulcans
California (Pa.) is 14-7 overall and 10-5 in PSAC West competition after scoring a 61-55 road win over Clarion on Wednesday night. Rajah Fink led the Vulcans with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Halle Herrington added 16 points. Ciaira Loyd finished with 12 points, five rebounds and five assists.
 
On the season, Cal averages 67.3 points per game while holding opponents to 61.3. Cal also holds a +3.1 rebounding margin and a +3.7 turnover margin.
 
Fink is the Vulcans leading scorer and rebounding averaging a double-double with 15.3 points and 10.8 boards per game. Loyd adds 13.7 points and 6.9 assists per game. Herrington is also averaging double figure scoring with 13.0 per outing.
