Edinboro Wraps Up VSU Tournament Undefeated

(September 12, 2015) – The Edinboro University volleyball team earned shutout victories in both matches on Saturday to conclude the two-day VSU Tournament, hosted by Virginia State. The Fighting Scots wrapped up the weekend undefeated with a 3-0 record to improve to 6-1 overall on the season.
 
Edinboro defeated West Virginia State 3-0 in the early game before also blanking Glenville State 3-0 in the afternoon.
 
Here's a wrap-up of the two matches:
 
EDINBORO DEF. WEST VIRGINIA STATE 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-15)
The Fighting Scots defeated West Virginia State in the early match of the day, prevailing in three games. Junior middle hitter Latoya Hutchinson led the Edinboro attack with 14 kills in the match. Sophomore setter Sydney Trathen controlled the offense with 38 assists, while also leading the defense with 13 digs. Hutchinson and fellow Fighting Scot Jen Gruber contributed five blocks total in the match.
EDINBORO DEF. GLENVILLE STATE 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-14)
The Fighting Scots kept the momentum rolling right through the final game of the tournament, defeating Glenville State in just three games. Challen Litwiler finished with a team-high 10 kills in the match, while freshman Morgyn Sharp and Gruber contributed eight each. Trathen once again paced the Edinboro attack with 34 assists. Senior Marah Maycock led the Fighting Scots defense with 18 digs and also earned six service aces.
 
The Fighting Scots are back in action in the two-day PSAC-MEC Crossover, hosted by Gannon, on Friday, September 18 in Erie, Pennsylvania. Edinboro will begin the tournament on Friday against West Virginia State at 5 p.m. The Fighting Scots will will wrap up the second day against Concord at 12 noon before facing off against Ursuline at 2 p.m.
