MATCH STORYLINES
- A youthful Edinboro wrestling team looks for its first win while facing its third straight nationally-ranked opponent. Lehigh, tied for 11th in the latest USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll, visits McComb Fieldhouse for the first time since November 25, 1995. The Fighting Scots opened the season with a 24-13 loss at sixth-ranked Virginia Tech, then dropped a 20-16 decision to 22nd-ranked Pittsburgh last Sunday in the home opener. Edinboro is among "others receiving votes" in the NWCA poll.
- The Fighting Scots come off an 8-11 finish a year ago, winning the EWL regular season crown before finishing in a tie for 32nd place at the NCAA Division I National Championships. It's a new-look Edinboro squad, as head coach Tim Flynn's squad returns just four starters. However, all four are returning national qualifiers and are nationally-ranked. Flynn sent a young group of wrestlers to the mat at Virginia Tech, with one true freshmen and two redshirt freshmen, plus a sophomore and two redshirt sophomores. That lineup got a little younger against Pittsburgh, with freshman Ozzy Lugo getting the starting nod at 141 lbs. Chase Delande is the lone senior in the lineup, and the redshirt senior is in his first year as a starter at 157 lbs.
- Lehigh defeated Bucknell in their opening dual, coming away with a 33-7 victory. The next day the Mountain Hawks competed in the Journeyman Collegiate Classic, with six wrestlers winning their respective pools. Lehigh wrestles at Pittsburgh on Friday night before heading up I79 to face the Fighting Scots on Saturday.Â
- The Edinboro-Lehigh match will feature three matches between ranked wrestlers. At 125 lbs., Sean Russell, who is ranked 16th by InterMat, will look to upset fourth-ranked Darian Cruz, a former All-American. The two will renew a rivalry which began in 2014-15 when the two were redshirting. Cruz has won all three meetings, including a 3-1 sudden victory decision last year. Two of their three meetings have gone into overtime. At 149 lbs., 13th-ranked Patricio Lugo will square off against No. 11 Laike Gardner. Both were national qualifiers a year ago, with Lugo winning a 6-4 decision in last year's dual. Finally, Billy Miller, ranked 17th, faces another tough opponent at heavyweight in Lehigh's Doug Vollaro, who is ranked 11th. This will be the first meeting between the two.Â
- The Edinboro lineup has four nationally-ranked wrestlers, according to InterMat. Patricio Lugo is ranked 13th at 149 lbs., Austin Matthews is 15th at 165 lbs., Sean Russell 16th at 125 lbs., Billy Miller 17th at heavyweight. Lehigh counters with a lineup showcasing seven nationally-ranked wrestlers. Darian Cruz is ranked fourth at 125 lbs. and brother Randy Cruz is fifth at 141 lbs. Both are All-Americans, with Darian earning the honor in 2014 with a seventh place finish at 125 lbs., and Randy placing eighth at 141 lbs. last year. Laike Gardner and Doug Vollaro are ranked 11th at 149 lbs. and heavyweight, respectively. Jordan Kutler comes in ranked 15th at 157 lbs., with Scott Parker 18th at 133 lbs. and Ryan Preisch 20th at6 174 lbs.   Â
- The Fighting Scots will take a break to enjoy Thanksgiving before returning to action in the Las Vegas Invitational on December 2-3.

THE COACHES
EDINBORO -- Tim Flynn (Penn State '86) is in his 20th season as the helm of the Fighting Scots. Â He has elevated the Edinboro program to one of the best in the country, compiling a 206-86-5 record. Â Edinboro has had 13 top-20 finishes and five in the top ten at the NCAA Division I National Championships during his tenure. Â That includes the two best finishes in school history in 2014 and 2015. The Fighting Scots made the podium for the first time at Nationals with a third place showing two years ago, and in 2014 they were fifth. He has produced three national champions and 37 All-Americans. Â All told, Flynn has been named the EWL Coach of the Year seven times and the PSAC Coach of the Year 13 times. Three years ago, Flynn captured nearly every Coach of the Year award, including being named the NWCA NCAA Division I Coach of the Year, WIN's Dan Gable Coach of the Year, and was InterMat's Co-Coach of the Year along with Minnesota's J Robinson.
LEHIGH -- Pat Santoro (Pittsburgh '92) is in his ninth season as the Lawrence White Head Coach of Wrestling at Lehigh. A three-time EIWA Coach of the Year, he has produced one NCAA champion and 18 All-Americans while leading the Mountain Hawks to a 114-37-1 record. A year ago, Lehigh finished with a 13-3 record and was 7-0 in the EIWA, including the first win over rival Cornell since 2011. The Mountain Hawks would go on to finish second at the EIWA Championships and place 14th at the NCAA Division I National Championships. Three Mountain Hawks earned All-American honors.
