The Game Story
  • #24/16 Edinboro head coach Stan Swank is one win away from passing Charles Chronister of Bloomsburg as the all-time leader in victories in the history of PSAC men's and women's basketball. Swank, who already has more wins than any PSAC women's basketball coach with 559, tied Chronister's win total in the Fighting Scots 82-64 win over Shippensburg on Sunday, November 19.
  • The Fighting Scots are 5-0 overall for the first since the 2011-12 season, when they won 24 consecutive contests to start the campaign. The Fighting Scots have not played since November 19 when they defeated Shippensburg. That capped a 3-0 week, as they defeated Wheeling Jesuit, 77-67, in their home opener on November 15. That weekend, Edinboro opened PSAC action with wins over Millersville, 83-63, and Shippensburg, 82-64.
  • In the win over Wheeling Jesuit, Jontay Walton posted career-highs with 26 points and seven assists. The 5'5" redshirt junior guard also tied a career-best six steals, while hitting five three-point shots. She nearly equaled her career mark later that weekend against Shippensburg. She scored 25 points, to go along with six assists, five steals and five 3-pointers. Walton was named the PSAC West Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for her performance.
  • Michelle Jahn moved up two spots to seventh place on the all-time three-point field goal list against the Marauders and Raiders. The junior guard made two 3-pointers against Millersville and added three more vs. Shippensburg to boost her career total to 143, good for seventh place at Edinboro. Jahn needs 11 more 3-pointers to pass Kelly Calderone, who ranks sixth with 153 3-pointers.
  • Mansfield heads into the weekend after suffering a 74-63 loss against Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday. That dropped the Mountaineers to 3-3 on the season. They are 1-1 in PSAC action.
  • Four players scored in double figures for the Mountaineers against Roberts Wesleyan, with Brielle Kelly leading the pack with 17 points and eight rebounds. Alyssa Mullins contributed 15 points and racked up five boards, while Mary Kate Rumbaugh added 13 points and eight rebounds. Erin Gibbons contributed 10 points and connected on three of Mansfield's five 3-pointers on the night. 
  • Second-year Mountaineer head coach Michael Whitling, a former assistant at Gannon, has his team pointed in the right direction. Mansfield is off to its best start since the 2010-11 season when they started the campaign 5-2 over their first seven contests. A year ago, Whitling's first team finished at 5-21.
  • Lock Haven heads into the weekend with a 1-4 overall record, and is 0-2 in the PSAC East. The Bald Eagles host Slippery Rock on Saturday. They last played on November 19, dropping an 89-51 decision to Seton Hill.
  • Kayla Henderson leads the Bald Eagles in scoring at 10.4 ppg. The 5'6" senior guard is also second on the team with 4.6 rpg.

  • Edinboro outscored Mansfield in the opening quarter, 31-12, and never looked back.
  • Four Fighting Scots scored in double figures. Katie Fischer scored 18 of her game-high 22 points in the opening half, as she connected on 7-of-8 shots from the floor and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. She also assisted on five Fighting Scot baskets.
  • Lauren Hippo was the second-leading scorer on the day with 21 points, including five 3-pointers, while dishing out a game-high six assists. Aignee' Freeland tacked on 19 points and posted a four blocks for the Boro.
  • Edinboro ended the contest shooting 54.7 percent (35-of-64) from the floor and went 11-of-19 on 3-pointers. The Fighting Scots also scored 24 points off the Mountaineers' 15 turnovers.
  • Brielle Kelly and Katie Fitzpatrick each scored a team-high 11 points for the Mountaineers.

  • Edinboro's streak of 12 consecutive wins came to an end at Lock Haven as the Fighting Scots suffered through a horrible shooting contest.
  • Lauren Hippo fell just shy of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Nicole Johnson added 10 points and seven boards.
  • For Lock Haven, Rachael McDaniel led all scorers with 19 points. Loren Kaiser came off the bench and contributed 15 points. McDaniel, Kaiser and Mackenzie Livingston would each make 7-of-8 free throws. The Bald Eagles made 25-of-30 from the line, while Edinboro was 15-of-21 at the charity stripe.
  • While Edinboro held Lock Haven to 33.3 (19-of-57) percent shooting on the game, the Fighting Scots shot just 17-of-65 (26.2 percent). The Fighting Scots held a 26-24 lead at the half, but Lock Haven outscored the Scots, 43-27, over the final 20 minutes. After shooting just 21.7 percent in the first half, the Bald Eagles warmed up to 46.4 percent in the second half. Lock Haven used an 11-3 run midway through the fourth quarter to seal the upset.

Edinboro: Stan Swank (Purdue '76) -- 559-301, 31st Year
  • Stan Swank is in his 31st season as the Edinboro women's basketball head coach. He has led the Fighting Scots to seven straight 20-win seasons for a 166-46 overall record during that period. Overall, Swank has had 13 20-win seasons as Edinboro's head coach.
  • Swank is the all-time leader in wins (559) among PSAC women's coaches, and is one win shy of passing Charles Chronister of Bloomsburg for the all-time conference record among men's and women's coaches.
  • He has led Edinboro to four PSAC championship titles, and ten appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament. During March Madness, the Fighting Scots have made two Elite Eight appearances, three Sweet Sixteen births, and have made the Round of 32 on four occasions.
Mansfield: Michael Whitling (Clarion '04) -- 8-24, 2nd year
  • Michael Whitling is in his second season at Mansfield. He has coached the Mountaineers to a 3-3 overall record this season, after going 5-21 in his first year at the helm.
  • Prior to his arrival in Mansfield, Whitling served as an assistant coach on the Gannon women's basketball team from 2013-16. During his time with the Golden Knights, they went 66-23, held a No. 2 ranking during the 2013-14 season, and made two NCAA Tournament appearances.
  • His basketball coaching career started as a graduate assistant coach with the Clarion women's basketball team.
Lock Haven: Jennifer Smith (Millersville '02) -- 84-181, 11th year; 108-214 overall, 13th year
  • Smith is in her 11th season at the helm for Lock Haven. Last season, she guided the Bald Eagles to a 10-16 overall record, while going 7-15 in PSAC play.
  • Smith has coached the Bald Eagles to two conference playoff berths, during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 campaigns. That marked the first time the program had made consecutive playoff appearances since the 1990-91 seasons.

Scouting the Fighting Scots
  • Stan Swank is the all-time leader in wins (559) among PSAC women's coaches, and is one win shy of passing Charles Chronister of Bloomsburg for the all-time conference record among men's and women's basketball coaches.
  • Entering the 2017-18 campaign, coach Swank ranked ninth in Division II with 554 wins at Edinboro, and 41st in the NCAA. As a program, Edinboro ranked 13th all-time in Division II with 779 wins. Over the last five years, he has coached the Scots to a .733 winning percentage at, which is 25th in Division II. Swank also ranks 38th in Division II history with a .648 winning percentage.
  • Edinboro was picked to finish third in the PSAC West Coaches' Preseason Poll. A year ago they finished fourth in the PSAC West and qualified for the PSAC Tournament for the eighth straight year.
  • This week, the Fighting Scots moved up a spot in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll from 25th to 24th. They also moved up two spots in the D2SIDA Media Poll, jumping from 18th to 16th, while also remaining third in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region Rankings.
  • The Fighting Scots are 5-0 on the season for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign, when they won their first 24 contests to start the season.
  • Edinboro last played the weekend of November 18-19, as they opened PSAC play defeating Millersville on Saturday, 83-63, followed by an 82-64 win over Shippensburg the next day. They started the season defeating then second-ranked and 2017 national runner-up Virginia Union, 89-79, and UVa-Wise, 68-56, in the Conference Crossover. Prior to conference play, the Scots defeated Wheeling Jesuit on November 15, in their home opener, 77-67. Four of Edinboro's first five opponents won 20-or-more games in 2016-17.
  • Jontay Walton was named the PSAC West Women's Basketball Player of the Week following the PSAC crossover games. The redshirt junior guard scored a career-high 26 points against Wheeling Jesuit, and later in the week tallied 25 points vs. Shippensburg.
  • The Boro bench was an X-factor in the win over Shippensburg. Cheniya Sharpe scored eight points and grabbed 13 rebounds - 10 on the offensive end - to go along with four steals and three assists. Allison Thompson was also a spark off the bench. The 6'0" junior contributed a season-high nine points and racked up eight boards.
  • Against Millersville, the Edinboro bench was difference for the Fighting Scots, who won their seventh straight contest against the black and gold. The Boro reserves outscored the Marauders, 31-11. In addition, Millersville committed 22 turnovers, leading to a 27-8 advantage in points off turnovers for the Scots.
  • Sarah Fischer came off the bench and led all scorers with a season-high 15 points. That was nearly half of the Fighting Scots bench points (31). The freshman guard connected on 5-of-7 3-pointers, and made a combined eight baskets from beyond the arc over the weekend. She is shooting 56.3 percent on 3-pointers, which leads the PSAC and ranks seventh in Division II.
  • Ciara Rosten added 14 points vs. Millersville, making 6-of-11 shots, with six rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Michaela Barnes and Jontay Walton contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.
  • Rosten also ranks 11th in the country with 2.80 blocks per game and 24th with 14 total blocked shots.
  • Sharpe is averaging 5.0 offensive rebounds per game, good for 12th in Division II.
  • As a team, the Fighting Scots are tied for sixth place in Division II with a 10.00 turnover margin, and are 28th in assists per game (17.8).
Scouting the Mountaineers
  • Michael Whitling enters his second season at Mansfield. At 3-3 overall, the Mountaineers are off to their best start since the 2010-11 season. Last season, they went 5-21 overall and were 3-19 in conference play.
  • Mansfield was picked to finish ninth in the East Coaches' Preseason Poll.
  • The Mountaineers rely heavily on the frontcourt tandem of Brielle Kelly and Alyssa Mullins.
  • Kelly, a 5'11" senior forward, leads Mansfield with 16.8 ppg., 7.3 rpg., and has pulled down eight rebounds in five straight contests this season. She recently surpassed 1,000 career points, becoming the 17th player in program history to reach the mark in a 77-73 win over Seton Hill.
  • Mullins, a 6'0" senior forward, is second in both points and rebounds on the team, as she averages 13.3 ppg. and 6.3 rpg. She has also collected two double-doubles this season, including a career-high 28-point, 13-rebound effort vs. West Virginia State.
  • Freshman guard Erin Gibbons has moved into the starting lineup after coming off the bench in Mansfield's first three contests. She has contributed 10.8 ppg.
  • The Mountaineers rank 17th in Division in 3-point field goal defense, as they have limited opponents to shoot .225 from beyond the arc.
  • Mansfield has wins over West Virginia State, Pitt-Bradford and Seton Hill, while losing to West Virginia Wesleyan, No. 10 California (Pa.) and Roberts Wesleyan.
Scouting the Bald Eagles
  • Jennifer Smith is in her 13th season at the helm for Lock Haven. She has the Bald Eagles at 1-4 this season and 0-2 in the PSAC.
  • The Bald Eagles were picked to finish seventh in the PSAC East Coaches' Preseason Poll, after finishing seventh last year.
  • Kayla Henderson leads the Bald Eagles in points (10.4 ppg.) and steals (7). The 5'6" senior guard is also second on the team with 4.6 rpg. Maimuna Kenneh is the team's leading rebounder with 7.4 boards collected per contest. Freshman Bink Redman leads the team in assists with 3.8 apg.
  • Lock Haven's lone win this season came in an 84-53 decision against Penn State-Altoona in their only home contest to date.
  • In the win over Penn State Altoona, four players scored in double figures. Ahnera Parker led all players with 15 points, Rileigh Devine and Kenneh each added 12 points, and Henderson contributed 10 points.
  • Parker and Henderson were responsible for 25 of 39 bench points. They also outscored Penn State-Altoona in the paint, 40-12, and held a 28-13 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • The Bald Eagles have lost to Seton Hill, No. 20 Indiana(Pa.), Concord, and Fairmont State.
