The Game Story

  • Edinboro travels to Fairmont State for its fourth of five consecutive road contests, and the final non-conference game of the regular season. The Fighting Scots will also look to continue their best start to a season since the 2011-12 campaign, when Edinboro started the year 24-0.
  • Last weekend, the Fighting Scots traveled to Cheyney on Saturday, and defeated the Wolves by an 87-46 count.
  • Following the win, Edinboro climbed three spots in the latest release of the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) and D2SIDA Media Polls. In the WBCA Poll, the Fighting Scots rank 13th, and in the D2SIDA Poll, are 10th.
  • The Fighting Scots started the 2017-18 season by upsetting then second-ranked Virginia Union by an 89-79 count, and UVa-Wise, 68-56, at the Conference Crossover. Edinboro then played three home contests at McComb Fieldhouse, as they defeated Wheeling Jesuit (77-67), followed by conference wins over Millersville (83-63) and Shippensburg (81-54). The Fighting Scots five-game road trip began with wins at Mansfield (94-52) and at Lock Haven (87-46).
  • In the win over Mansfield, Edinboro head coach Stan Swank became the all-time wins leader among men's and women's basketball coaches in the PSAC with his 560th career victory. Swank already had the most wins by a PSAC women's basketball coach, and passed Charles Chronister of Bloomsburg for the men's title.
  • Michelle Jahn needs one more 3-pointer to hold sole possession of sixth place on the all-time three-point field goals made list with 154 career makes from downtown. She tied the mark against the Wolves.
  • Ciara Rosten registered her third double-double of the year with 17 points and 10 rebounds against Cheyney.
  • Fairmont State will head into Tuesday's contest having played one contest since Edinboro's last win at Cheyney. The Fighting Falcons hosted Salem International on Wednesday, in an 87-42 decision.
  • Fairmont State enters Tuesday game 5-5 overall and 1-5 in the MEC. They are 2-0 this season against PSAC foes, with wins over Lock Haven and Clarion in the MEC/PSAC Challenge.
  • Sierra Kotchman leads the Fighting Falcons with 19.5 ppg. Brooke Kurucz is also scoring in double figures with 15.7 ppg.

  • On today's date exactly one year ago, these two programs met for the first time since the 1998-99 season.
  • Fairmont State jumped out to a 13-0 over the first 6:28, but Edinboro fought back to win their ninth game in a row. The Fighting Scots missed their first 13 shots, while also committing five turnovers during the Fighting Falcons scoring run.
  • Edinboro was held to 24-of-75 (.320) in the contest, but scored 22 points off 21 Falcon turnovers, and led 28-7 in bench points. The Fighting Scots also outscored the Fighting Falcons in the second and third quarters, respectively, 43-34.
  • Jontay Walton came off the bench for 14 points, with 10 coming in the second half, and went 8-for-8 on free throws. Katie Fischer led the Fighting Scots with 18 points, six rebounds and three steals. Ciara Rosten contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks, before fouling out.
  • Fairmont State made four more free throws (21-for-32) than Edinboro (17-for-21).
 
The Head Coaches
Edinboro: Stan Swank (Purdue '76) -- 562-301, 31st Year
  • Stan Swank is in his 31st season as the Edinboro women's basketball head coach. He has led the Fighting Scots to seven straight 20-win seasons, and is currently 174-46 overall during that period. Overall, Swank has had 13 20-win seasons as Edinboro's head coach.
  • Swank is the all-time leader in wins (562) among PSAC men's and women's coaches. He entered the campaign with the most wins by a women's basketball coach in PSAC history, and passed former Bloomsburg men's basketball coach Charles Chronister for the men's title.
  • Entering the 2017-18 campaign, coach Swank ranked ninth in Division II with 554 wins at Edinboro, and 41st in the NCAA. As a program, Edinboro ranked 13th all-time in Division II with 779 wins. Over the last five years, he has coached the Scots to a .733 winning percentage, which is 25th in Division II. Swank also ranks 38th in Division II history with a .648 winning percentage.
  • In his 31 years at Edinboro, he has led the Fighting Scots to four PSAC championship titles, and ten appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament. During March Madness, the Fighting Scots have made two Elite Eight appearances, three Sweet Sixteen births, and have made the Round of 32 on four occasions.
Fairmont State: Steve McDonald (West Virginia, '80) -- 343-170, 17th year; 398-205, 20th overall
  • Steve McDonald is in his 17th season and 24th at Fairmont State.
  • The winningest coach in program history, McDonald has led the Fighting Falcons to three WVIAC Tournament titles, including one regular season title. In each title season, Fairmont State made their lone appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
  • Prior to becoming the women's basketball head coach, McDonald served as an assistant coach on the men's team from 1993-2000. He also served as the men's basketball head coach at West Virginia Wesleyan from 1989-92.

Scouting the Fighting Scots
  • The Fighting Scots were picked to finish third in the PSAC West Coaches' Preseason Poll. A year ago, they finished fourth in the PSAC West and qualified for the PSAC Tournament for the eighth straight season.
  • Edinboro continues to have its best start to a season since the 2011-12 squad, who went undefeated in their first 24 games.
