The Game Story
  • #16/13 Edinboro enters the weekend as one of 20 teams undefeated in NCAA Division II Women's Basketball. Last weekend, the Fighting Scots started a five-game road trip, and improved to 7-0 on the season and 4-0 in the PSAC East, following an 81-54 win over Mansfield, and a 94-52 decision over Lock Haven. The women's basketball team is off to its best start since the 2011-12 campaign, when Edinboro started the year 24-0.
  • Edinboro jumped eight spots in the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) Poll's latest release, going from No. 24 to No. 16. In the D2SIDA Media Poll, the Fighting Scots moved up three spots from No. 16 to No. 13.
  • Edinboro head coach Stan Swank became the all-time wins leader among men's and women's basketball coaches in the PSAC with his 560th career win on Saturday, as the Fighting Scots defeated Mansfield, 81-54 at Decker Gymnasium. Swank, who entered the weekend already with the most win's by a women's basketball coach in conference history, left with 561 career victories and the most win's by a women's basketball coach in PSAC history, passing Charles Chronister of Bloomsburg for the men's title. Entering the 2017-18 campaign, coach Swank ranked ninth in Division II with 554 wins at Edinboro, and 41st in the NCAA. As a program, Edinboro ranked 13th all-time in Division II with 779 wins. Over the last five years, he has coached the Scots to a .733 winning percentage at, which is 25th in Division II. Swank also ranks 38th in Division II history with a .648 winning percentage.
  • In their wins over Mansfield and Lock Haven, the Scots won the turnover margin, 56-19 (28 turnovers forced in each contest). Additionally, the Fighting Scots rank second in Division II, with a 12.43 turnover margin per contest. The Scots are also forcing 26.29 turnovers a game, which is fourth-best in the country. Edinboro also held a totaled 77-38 advantage in points in the paint against their opponents.
  • In the win over Mansfield, Ciara Rosten recorded her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds. The 6'2" senior forward also blocked five shots for the second time this season. She currently ranks fifth in the nation with 3.14 blocks per game.
  • Against Lock Haven, the Scots never trailed, as they connected on their first nine shots, shooting 13-of-19 from the floor, and led 33-13 after the first quarter.
  • Michelle Jahn scored in double figures in both contests this weekend. She scored 15 points against Mansfield, going 3-of-7 from deep. She followed up with 17 points on Sunday against Lock Haven, shooting 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. Jahn needs to connect on three more long balls for 153 career made 3-pointers, which would move her into sixth place on the all-time career list.
  • Cheyney enters the weekend looking to end a four-game skid. They are 1-8 overall and 0-4 in the PSAC East.
  • Last weekend, they hosted Pitt-Johnston in their home opener last Saturday, losing 71-53, and lost 86-55 the following day lost to No. 7 Indiana(Pa.).
  • TaKayla Ellis is averaging a team-high 11.3 ppg. Yasmine Dorrielan and Marlon Herring are posting near double-doubles on the season. Dorrielan is contributing 8.2 ppg., and 8.3 rpg., while Herring is scoring 7.8 ppg., and collecting 7.0 rpg.
  • Cheyney ranks fourth in the PSAC with 10.11 steals per game, and are sixth in blocked shots, averaging 3.56 per contest.

  • Edinboro forced 34 turnovers for 37 points, and received 43 points from the reserves in a in a 78-38 win.
  • Ciara Rosten grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, while contributing 10 points for her first double-double of the season.
  • Jontay Walton came off the bench for a game-high 14 points. She shot 4-of-7 from the floor, 6-for-6 on free throws, and recorded five steals.
  • Michaela Barnes also scored in double figures with 10 points.
  • The Fighting Scots led the entire contest, finishing the game shooting 40.9 percent (27-of-66) from the floor, and 35.3 (6-of-17) on 3-pointers. The Wolves were held to 30.0 percent (15-of-50) shooting on the day, and went 20.0 percent (3-of-15) from downtown.

  • Stan Swank is in his 31st season as the Edinboro women's basketball head coach. He has led the Fighting Scots to seven straight 20-win seasons and is currently 180-46 overall record during that period. Overall, Swank has had 13 20-win seasons as Edinboro's head coach.
  • Last weekend, Swank became the all-time leader in wins (561) among PSAC men's and women's coaches with his 560 career victory in an 81-54 win at Mansfield. Swank, entered the weekend with the most wins among PSAC women's basketball coaches and was tied with former Bloomsburg men's basketball coach Charles Chronister.

  • Tammy Bagby enters her second season as Cheyney's women's basketball head coach. 
  • Last season, she led the Wolves to a 6-17 overall record, with all six wins coming in PSAC action. It was their best season since the 2010-11 campaign.
  • Bagby began her coaching career at Clark Atlanta. She has also coached at Morgan State, Tennessee State and Jackson State.

Scouting the Fighting Scots
  • Edinboro opened the season with an upset of then No. 2 Virginia Union, who finished last season as the national runner-up.
  • The Fighting Scots were picked to finish third in the PSAC West Coaches' Preseason Poll. A year ago, they finished fourth in the PSAC West and qualified for the PSAC Tournament for the eighth straight season.
  • Jontay Walton (20.6 ppg.), Michelle Jahn (13.3), Ciara Rosten (13.1), and Michaela Barnes (10.4) are each averaging double figures per contest this season. Combined, they are responsible for 57.4 (70.0 percent) of the Scots 82.0 points averaged a game this year.
  • The Fighting Scots continue to have their best start to a season since the 2011-12 squad, who went undefeated in their first 24 games.
  • Last weekend, Edinboro won an 81-54 decision at Mansfield and defeated Lock Haven, 94-52.

Scouting the Wolves
  • Cheyney was picked to finish eighth in the PSAC East Coaches' Preseason Poll. A year ago, the Wolves finished eighth in the East with a 6-17 overall record, including all six wins coming in conference play.
  • Their lone win of the 2017-18 season came against Shaw at the Virginia State University Thanksgiving Tournament, as the Wolves edged out the win, 71-68.
  • Last weekend, Cheyney played their first home contests of the season against Pitt-Johnstown (71-53), and Indiana(Pa.) (86-55). They had played their first seven contests away from Alfred Cope Hall.
  • TaKayla Ellis scored a team-high 13 points and dished out four assists against Pitt-Johnstown. Yasmine Dorrielan rebounded a team-high 13 boards.
  • Malon Herring came up three points and a rebound shy of a double-double.
  • Against the Crimson Hawks, Gianni Hill scored a team-high 10 points.
  • Maye and Dorrieland each contributed eight points in the loss.
