SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Make it three straight PSAC championships in the 800-meter run for
Corey Wefing and two consecutive in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for for
Eugene Baritot.
Wefing and Baritot capped day two for the Edinboro men's track & field team at the 2018 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Slippery Rock is hosting the event at wind-swept Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
The Fighting Scots currently have 38 points, good for third place at day two. Shippensburg and Slippery Rock are tied for first place with 56 points apiece. Kutztown has 33 points and East Stroudsburg rounds out the top five with 30 points.
The 2018 version certainly didn't come easy. The junior held the lead rounding the final turn, then battled Shippensburg's Austin Padmore down the stretch. Wefing dove across the finish line, picking up several scrapes and the championship plaque in the process.
Wefing's winning time was an NCAA provisional mark of 1:51.51, just edging Padmore's time of 1:51.57. Wefing previously won the event in 2015 and 2016, and missed last year's championships with an injury.
Baritot defended his title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:29.59. He captured first place by a little more than a second over Lock Haven's Mitchell Coakley, who came in second at 9:30.70.
Bryan Geehrer also competed in the steeplechase for Edinboro, finishing in fourth place with a season-best time of 9:41.90.

Matt Pryzbocki also reached the award stand as he placed sixth in the decathlon. The junior finished with a total of 5,699 points. His top event in day two was the 110-meter hurdles, as he finished with 713 points (16.18). He picked up 531 points in the javelin (46.06m – 151'01") while placing second among all competitors, and had 457 points in the 1500-meter run (18.60). In addition, he totaled 431 points in the discus (28.1m – 92'10") and 345 points in the pole vault (2.95m – 9'8").
Joel Lohr finished 15th in the 400-meter dash prelims with a time of 50.73.
Devon Brown competed in the discus for the men. Unfortunately, the freshman fouled on all three attempts.
