Edinboro Men Post Highest Finish at PSAC Outdoor Championships Since 1999, Finish in Fourth Place

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Edinboro men's track & field team enjoyed its best showing at the 2018 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships since 1999 as the third and final day of competition wrapped up at Slippery Rock's Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. The Fighting Scots of head coach Anne Carlson, assisted by Ryan Foster, came in fourth out of 14 teams with 72 points.

Shippensburg won its tenth straight PSAC outdoor crown with 171 points, defeating second-place Slippery Rock (143 points). East Stroudsburg came in third with 84 points, followed by Edinboro. Seton Hill and Kutztown tied for fifth with 62 points.

Corey Wefing won 1,500-meter run on Saturday.
Edinboro was buoyed by five first place finishes as the Fighting Scots dominated the distance events. Corey Wefing won the 800 and 1500-meter runs, Austin Pondel was first in the 10,000, and Eugene Baritot captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Wefing picked up his second title on Saturday as the junior won the 1,500 after a grueling 800-meter victory on Friday. Wefing posted a time of 3:53.18 to defeat Dominic Stroh of Shippensburg (3:53.66). He has now won three 800-meter championships plus the 1500. He was fifth in the event in 2016.

Geehrer made it five first place finishes for the Fighting Scots as he denied Pondel of a second title. Geehrer registered a personal-best time of 15:09.37 in the 5,000-meter run, with Pondel crossing the finish line second with a time of 15:12.64.

Jared Hallow gave Edinboro a third scorer in the 5,000 as he finished sixth with a time of 15:24.88. Five Fighting Scots qualified for the race, with Colton Cassel 11th (15:50.70) and Baritot 12th (15:55.98).

???????Edinboro also scoring efforts in the javelin, triple jump, and 4x400-meter relay with eighth place showings in each. Trae Smith was eighth in the javelin (166'7"), with Noah Shettel using a PR in the triple jump (44'7.50") to finish eighth.

Finally, the foursome of Eduardo Tapia, Brendan Oswalt, Corey Matteo, and Wefing was eighth in the 4x400-meter relay.
