THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Indiana(Pa.) leads 60-23-4
IUP has won the last five meetings with the Fighting Scots. Edinboro last prevailed in 2013, winning a 36-30 decision at IUP.

LAST YEAR'S GAME
# 22 IUP 13, Edinboro 6
For the second week in a row, the Fighting Scots played in less than ideal weather conditions. And for the second week in a row, the defense and Walter Fletcher came up big. Unfortunately, this time it didn't translate into a victory as 22nd-ranked IUP was able to put together a scoring drive while Edinboro came up eight yards short of matching in the final minute. IUP took a 6-0 lead on a pair of Dillon Sarka field goals (39 and 43 yards) in the second quarter. Edinboro would knot the score at 6-6 midway through the third quarter when Walter Fletcher scored his 16th touchdown on a one-yard run. That capped an eight-play, 38-yard drive. Jake Monroe's extra point hit the left upright, ending a streak of 33 consecutive successful PATs. The Crimson Hawks grabbed the lead on a one-yard TD run by Justice Evans, culminating a 10-play, 78-yard march to take a 13-7 lead. With just over three minutes remaining Edinboro took over at its own 38 yard line. A pair of Walter Fletcher runs picked up one first down, and a Jarrod Kellar-to-James Clark pass for 13 yards on 3rd-and-9 accounted for another. Facing a 4th-and-13 at the IUP 37, Kellar found A.J. Turner for 25 yards to the 12 with under a minute to play. After an incomplete pass, Fletcher gained four to the IUP 8. After another incompletion, Kellar's pass was tipped and ended up being intercepted at the fourwith 17 seconds left. Fletcher registered another huge game with a career-high 36 carries for 186 yards. Kellar completed 8-of-22 passes for 118 yards with 3 INTs, all tipped balls. Clark caught 6 passes for 83 yards. Edinboro would outgain the Crimson Hawks, 287 yards to 257.

LAST WEEK
Edinboro 27, Clarion 20

Edinboro sent out its seniors in style on Senior Day with a 27-20 win over Clarion to make it two wins in a row. The Fighting Scots had to withstand a rally by the Golden Eagles, coming up with a big defensive stand after Clarion closed a 27-10 deficit to 27-20. The day featured a number of seniors playing huge roles, along with big efforts from a pair of freshmen.  Ta'Nauz Gregory continued to rewrite the Edinboro record book, as he hauled in a record-tying three touchdown passes from Levi Becker, covering 1, 36, and 53 yards. The senior wide receiver came in holding school records for career receptions and career kickoff return yards, and on Saturday broke the record for career receiving yards, now at 3,119 yards, along with tying the career record for touchdowns receiving with 35. Edinboro's other points came on field goals of 28 and 21 yards by redshirt freshmen Vicente Arriagada. He has now made 10 straight field goal attempts. Freshman running back CJ Reyes-Diggs led a season-high 215-yard rushing effort as he finished with a season-high 178 yards on 35 carries. The latter figure is tied for 11th in a game.

#19 IUP 50, Seton Hill 23
Justice Evans ran for a career-high 175 yards on just 11 carries with two touchdowns to help 19th-ranked IUP to a 50-23 win at Seton Hill. Evans' rushing yardage was part of 538 total yards for the Crimson Hawks as they improved to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC West. His scoring runs went for 52 and 27 yards. IUP rushed for 290 yards and four scores, its second biggest output of the season. IUP scored on the third play of the game as Quinton Maxwell found Dom McNeil for a 75-yard score.  Following a safety, Maxwell threw his second touchdown pass, this one for two yards to JoJo Gause, and wide receiver Duane Brown scored on a two-yard run for a 23-0 lead. Leading 23-3 at the half, Evans scored both of his touchdowns to build the lead to 37-10 after three quarters. Maxwell added a rushing touchdown and Qashah Carter caught a 26-yard scoring pass from backup QB Jalen Reese to complete the scoring. Maxwell completed 9-of-17 passes for 181 yards with 2 TDs and an INT.  Seton Hill threw for 366 yards but the IUP defense countered by allowing just 13 rushing yards.

THE COACHES
Wayne Bradford (Salisbury St. '90) was named Edinboro's 15th head coach on March 29, 2017 and led Edinboro to a 7-4 record in his first season. That was followed by a 6-5 finish a year ago, and as Bradford wraps up his third season, he shows a 16-15 record. The 13 wins entering the season were tied for the most by an Edinboro head coach in his first two seasons. After serving as interim head coach in 2017, that tag was removed less than a week after the conclusion of the season. With his tenth win as head coach coming against East Stroudsburg last year, Bradford is the fastest coach to reach 10 wins at Edinboro. Bradford has worked under four different head coaches and was an assistant at Edinboro for 18 years before taking over as the interim head coach. He has spent a majority of his time as the Fighting Scots' defensive coordinator, although in 2019 he will move over to the offensive side to oversee the offense. Bradford has master-minded some brilliant defensive performances over the years in a day and age when offense has taken over. For instance, in 2011 the Fighting Scots ranked eighth in Division II in scoring defense (17.0 ppg.), 11th in pass efficiency defense, and 18th in total defense (292.6 ypg.). Edinboro gave up fewer than 20 points in seven of its 11 games. Two years ago, his Edinboro defense finished first in the PSAC and fourth in Division II in tackles for losses, and second in the PSAC and sixth in the country in sacks. Edinboro finished the 2016 campaign with a 9-2 record, marking the fifth time an Edinboro team with Bradford on the staff tied the school record for victories (9). Three of Edinboro's teams during his tenure have reached the NCAA playoffs, including the 2009 team, which finished at 9-4 and reached the Super Region One semifinals. All told, he has been a part of 121 wins.

Paul Tortorella (Slippery Rock '85) is in his third season as the head coach at IUP and owns an impressive 29-5 record.  Like Bradford, Tortorella was on an interim tag his first season. He would lead IUP to a 13-1 record, winning the PSAC championship and the Super Region One title before losing to West Florida in the NCAA Division II semifinals. IUP would finish third in the AFCA Division II Top 25. Tortorella was named the Division II co-Coach and Super Region One Coach of the Year by the Don Hansen Footbal Gazette. He also earned PSAC West Coach of the Year honors. He led IUP to an 8-3 record a year ago.  Tortorella took over for Curt Cignetti in early January 2017 after spending the previous 22 years as IUP's defensive coordinator, and was the associate head coach from 2011-16. His IUP defenses consistently ranked among the best in Division II, with his 2016 squad ranking third in the country in interceptions (24) and caused turnovers (35). Since his first season at IUP in 1995, Tortorella has coached 15 defensive All-Americans, with 107 All-PSAC?West honorees. Four players earned PSAC?West Defensive Player of the Year honors under his tutelage. Ten IUP squads were selected for the NCAA?Division II Playoffs during his tenure as the defensive coordinator. Prior to his arrival at IUP, Tortorella served as an assistant coach at Maryland and Akron.

THE GAME STORIES
  • Edinboro wrapped up the home portion of its season last Saturday with a 27-20 win over Clarion. Now riding a two-game winning streak, the Fighting Scots look to snap a five-game losing streak to an Indiana(Pa.) team that is ranked 19th in the latest AFCA Division II Top 25. Edinboro has improved to 3-6 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC West. IUP, meanwhile, has run off three straight wins after suffering a 45-42 loss to Slippery Rock and is now 8-1 overall and 5-1 in league play.  The Crimson Hawks are ranked fourth in the latest NCAA Division II Super Region One poll.
  • The PSAC Championship game is set, with Slippery Rock set to face Kutztown. That means instead of Edinboro facing Kutztown in the final game, the Fighting Scots will now travel to Bloomsburg on Saturday, November 16.  The two teams met in the second week of the season at Sox Harrison Stadium, with the Huskies rallying for a 24-21 win.
  • Edinboro's offense has come alive recently, and the Fighting Scots produced season highs of 215 yards rushing and 392 total yards. The spurt has coincided with the insertion of Levi Becker into the lineup. At one time the third string quarterback, the redshirt sophomore threw for three touchdowns vs. Clarion.
  • All three of Becker's touchdown passes went to Ta'Nauz Gregory, who left the home fans one last memory on Senior Day. He caught TD passes of 1, 36, and 53 yards.  Gregory is wrapping up an outstanding career while leaving his name etched in the record books. The senior wide receiver broke one record and tied another on Saturday. He set the record for career receiving yards (3,119) while tying the record for career TDs receiving (35). He previously set school records for career receptions (224) and career kickoff return yards (2,130).
  • IUP is the third ranked team Edinboro will face in 2019. The Crimson Hawks come in ranked 19th in the latest AFCA Division II Top 25 poll. The Fighting Scots opened the season Grand Valley State. The Lakers are currently ranked 14th. Slippery Rock is ranked ninth. Edinboro would have faced a fourth in a week in 15th-ranked Kutztown, but the Golden Bears will now face Slippery Rock in the PSAC Championship Game.
  • For the second straight week and third time this year, Edinboro had a player recognized by the PSAC. Gilberto Ortiz II, a junior defensive end, was named the PSAC West Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his performance vs. Clarion.  Aaron Rogers was selected the PSAC?West Defensive Athlete of the Week against Seton Hill, with Brandon Anderson earning the same award following the win over Gannon. Both are defensive backs.  Placekicker Vicente Arriagada was named the PSAC West Special Teams Athlete of the Week after the Seton Hill and Gannon contests.
  • Injuries have decimated Edinboro this year. No fewer than ten different starters have missed games due to injuries. Starting quarterback Andrew Tomko has played in just three games and has missed the last five contests. His backup, Jordan Castelli, has also started three games, but went down with an injury, as well. Third-string quarterback Levi Becker saw his first extended action against Mercyhurst, and has started the last two games. The secondary was considered Edinboro's strength at the beginning of the year, and still is, but starters DeAndre' Dowdell and Bill DePaul have missed considerable time.
  • Brandon Anderson is looking to become the first player since 1999 to lead Edinboro in tackles three straight years. The redshirt senior strong safety has a team-leading 81 tackles, and moved into the top ten in career tackles during the Clarion game. He has 334 tackles, good for tenth place.
