The Game Story
- After clinching a spot in the PSAC Tournament, No. 13/18 Edinboro heads to Seton Hill looking to win its sixth straight game. The Fighting Scots improved to 18-2 overall and 14-2 in the PSAC West with a 79-66 win over then No. 14/19 California(Pa.).
- Seton Hill is having its best season since the 2012-13 campaign, when it won 19 games. At 17-6 overall and 12-5 in the PSAC West, not only have the Griffins improved in the win column, but they have been one of the hottest teams in the Western Division during the second half of the season. Following their 90-70 loss at Edinboro on January 3, they went 6-0 before a loss at IUP on January 24. The Griffins have a 7-2 record at the McKenna Center, with their losses coming to Mansfield back in November and Gannon last Wednesday at the buzzer.
- This is Edinboro's lone road contest until February 17. The Fighting Scots will return to McComb Fieldhouse on Saturday when they host Gannon and hold their third annual "Hoops for Harlie" event. Next week, they will host Slippery Rock on February 14.
- The Fighting Scots rank 13th in the WBCA Division II Top 25 and 18th in the D2SIDA Top 25.
- Edinboro's win on Saturday ended a three-way tie for the best conference mark in the PSAC. Entering the weekend, the Fighting Scots were tied with California(Pa.) and IUP with a 13-2 record in PSAC action. With IUP's win against Gannon, there are now two teams atop the PSAC with a 14-2 conference record. The Crimson Hawks also captured a playoff berth, leaving four spots up for grabs in the Western Division.
- The Fighting Scots shot and converted a season-best 29-of-35 free throws against the Vulcans. Ciara Rosten shot and converted a career-high 9-of-12 free throws and Michelle Jahn made and attempted a career-best 9-of-10 free throws.
- Seton Hill is coming off a 75-65 win at Slippery Rock on Saturday. Freshman Cheyenne Trest led the Griffins with 22 points, including 5-of-7 3-pointers.
- On December 2, head coach Stan Swank became the all-time winningest basketball coach in PSAC history, after his then 560th career victory over Mansfield, 81-54. In the win, he passed Charles Chronister of Bloomsburg for the most wins all-time by a men's basketball coach in the PSAC. In his 31 years at Edinboro, Swank has gone 572-303 overall, and entered the year ranked ninth among Division II coaches with 554 career wins.
- Jontay Walton (17.1 ppg.), Ciara Rosten (14.8), Michelle Jahn (13.6), and Michaela Barnes (12.5) are each averaging double figures per contest this season. Combined, they are responsible for 58.0 points (73.0 percent) of the Fighting Scots 79.4 points per game. Against Cal, they combined for 68 of 79 points. The 79 points scored against the Vulcans were the most the nation's eighth-ranked defense has allowed to a conference opponent this year.

- In No. 15/25 Edinboro's first home contest since November 19, the Fighting Scots jumped out to a 19-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in a 90-70 win over Seton Hill.
- With the win, the Fighting Scots improved to 10-1 overall and 6-1 in the PSAC West. The Griffins, who entered the contest riding a six-game winning streak, fell to 9-4 and 4-3 in conference play.
- Over the opening 6:20 of the contest, the Fighting Scots scored the first 19 points of the game, with Michelle Jahn scoring 12 points during the 19-0 run. The run ended when Courtney Cecere came off the bench for a layup with 4:21 left in the quarter. Edinboro never trailed in the contest, leading by as much as 23 points in the fourth quarter.
- Entering the second quarter up 23-13, Ciara Rosten scored a layup just 11 seconds into the frame for a 12-point lead. However, the Griffins cut the Edinboro lead to single digits on an 8-0 run of their own. They would come to within six points at 27-21, but that is the closest Seton Hill got. Edinboro responded on an 11-3 break, increasing its lead to 16 points and a 44-31 lead at the half.
- With 2:02 remaining in the third period, Seton Hill cut the Scots lead to nine points at 54-45. During the run, Rosten was on the bench with four fouls. Jahn also made her way to the bench in the quarter. With two of Edinboro's top three scorers on the bench, the Fighting Scots entered the fourth quarter up 64-50. Edinboro made sure Seton Hill didn't get back into the contest, making 11-of-18 field goals for 26 points over the final 10 minutes.
- Four Fighting Scots scored in double figures, with Michaela Barnes scoring a career-high 19 points. The 5'6" sophomore guard shot 6-of-10 from the floor, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Rosten picked up her fourth double-double of the campaign with 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting, to go along with 12 rebounds, and three steals. The 6'2" senior forward also had four blocks, extending her streak to six straight contests with at least three swats per game.
- Jontay Walton scored 17 points, dished out a game-high six assists, recorded four steals and committed just one turnover in 34 minutes. Jahn ended the game with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting and was 2-of-3 from deep. Cheniya Sharpe posted a near double-double with eight points and eight rebounds, to go along with four steals.
- Jenna Kaufman led Seton Hill with 16 points. Cheyenne Trest and Lindsey Mifsud also scored in double figures with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Courtney Cecere and Katie Nolan came off the bench for 15 of the team's 21 bench points, scoring eight and seven points, respectively. Nolan was the Griffins leader on the glass with seven rebounds.
- Edinboro shot 47.4 percent (37-of-78) from the field, including 52.9 percent (9-of-17) in the first quarter and 61.1 percent (11-of-18) in the fourth quarter. The Scots also connected on 7-of-13 3-pointers, and were 9-for-11 at the line. Seton Hill was held to 34.8 percent (23-of-66) shooting on the night. The Griffins made 7-of-22 shots from long range, and converted 17-of-22 shots from the charity stripe. They were also held to six or fewer made field goals in each quarter.
- The Fighting Scots won the battle of the boards, 52-35, including a 15-8 advantage on the offensive glass. They also won the battle in the paint, 44-30, and led 14-6 in steals. In addition Seton Hill was outscored 18-2 in second chance points and 15-6 in fast break points.
The Head Coaches
Edinboro: Stan Swank (Purdue '76) -- 572-303, 31st Year
- Stan Swank is in his 31st season as the Edinboro women's basketball head coach. He has led the Fighting Scots to seven straight 20-win seasons and is nearing his eighth. He has compiled a 184-48 overall record during this period. In total, Swank has had 13 20-win seasons as Edinboro's head coach.
- Swank is the all-time leader in victories among PSAC men's and women's coaches with 572 wins. He entered the campaign with 554 wins, which was the most wins by a women's basketball coach in PSAC history. He then passed former Bloomsburg men's basketball coach Charles Chronister for the men's title in Edinboro's 81-54 triumph at Mansfield.
- Entering the 2017-18 season, Swank ranked ninth in Division II with 554 wins at Edinboro, and 41st in the NCAA. As a program, Edinboro ranked 13th all-time in Division II with 779 wins. Over the last five years, he has coached the Scots to a .733 winning percentage, which is 25th in Division II. Swank also ranked 38th in Division II history with a .648 winning percentage.
- In his 31 years at Edinboro, he has led the Fighting Scots to four PSAC championship titles, and ten appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament. During March Madness, the Fighting Scots have made two Elite Eight appearances, three Sweet Sixteen births, and have made the Round of 32 on four occasions.
Seton Hill: Mark Katarski (California(Pa.), '00) – 72-65, 5th Year; 127-167 Overall, 11th Year
- Katarski has led the Griffins to their best mark in his time as head coach with a 17-6 overall record and 12-5 in the PSAC West. Their overall mark is the program's best since the 2012-13 season.
- He has led Seton Hill to the PSAC Tournament each season since taking over the helm in the 2013-14 season, when the Griffins joined the PSAC. Additionally, they have won four straight PSAC Top Team GPA Awards among the women's basketball teams in the conference.
- His first season at Seton Hill was the programs inaugural season in the PSAC.
- Prior to Seton Hill, Katarski spent two seasons as an assistant coach for Division I Niagara women's basketball team and six seasons as the head coach at Division III Chatham.
- At Chatham, Katarski guided the Cougars to their first Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament victory, and made back-to-back semifinal appearances in the conference tournament.

- Edinboro earned a spot in the PSAC Tournament for the ninth straight season over the weekend, with a 79-66 upset victory over No. 14/19 California(Pa.). With the win, The Fighting Scots improved to 18-2 overall and 14-2 in the PSAC West. In addition, the three-way tie between Edinboro, IUP and California(Pa.) was cut to two, as IUP defeated Gannon over the weekend. The Fighting Scots and Crimson Hawks' 14-2 conference mark is atop the PSAC. The Fighting Scots rank 13th in the WBCA Division II Top 25 and 18th in the D2SIDA Top 25.
- With two more wins, the Fighting Scots will capture their eighth consecutive 20-win season. During the streak, Edinboro has posted a 184-48 overall record for four NCAA Tournament appearances, including one Elite Eight appearance and two Atlantic Regional Championship berths. The Fighting Scots have also won three PSAC Championship titles during that stretch. A year ago, Edinboro was picked to finish third in the PSAC West, after going 21-9 overall and 16-6 in conference play.

- The Fighting Scots shot a season-best 35 free throws against the Vulcans and made a season-high 29 free throws. Rosten shot and converted a career-high 9-of-12 free throws, and Jahn made and attempted a career-best 9-of-10 free throws.
- Six of Edinboro's last eight opponents have failed to reach 57 points. In total, 11 opponents have been held to under 60 points this season.
- Edinboro is averaging 79.5 ppg., which is second in the PSAC and 15th in Division II. The Fighting Scots have scored over 73 points in their last five contests, and have scored over 70 points in 17 games this year. Defensively, they are allowing 60.0 ppg., for third in the conference. The Scots are winning by an average of 19.5 ppg., which is second in the PSAC and 10th nationally.

Senior Ciara Rosten was held to six minutes with two fouls, while Whitney Allen collected three fouls in 12 minutes of action. Jontay Walton and Michaela Barnes each scored 10 points over the first two periods for a 32-27 lead at the half. In the second half, the Fighting Scots attempted a season-high 28 free throws and made 22. That is a season-best and the most since shooting 29 shots from the line in a 75-57 win over West Chester last season. Jahn made 9-of-10 free throws and Rosten was 7-for-10 at the line over the final 20 minutes.
- Four Fighting Scots scored in double figures. Jontay Walton scored a team-high 19 points, including 7-of-8 makes from the charity stripe. She also dished out five assists and blocked a career-high two shots. The 5'5" guard leads Edinboro in scoring and is sixth in the PSAC with 17.1 points per game, a difference +6.5 ppg from her scoring total last year. She's averaging at least three steals a game which leads the conference and is 16th in Division II. Walton is second in the PSAC in both assists per game (4.3) and total assists (85), while ranking third in total steals and 24th nationally with 60. With a 86.5 percent free-throw percentage, she ranks fourth in the conference and her 1.93 assist turnover ratio is fifth-best.
- Ciara Rosten was named PSAC West Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for the third time this season on Monday, after posting her 11th double-double of the year with 17 points and 15 rebounds. The 6'2" forward also blocked three shots, and has swatted away at least two shots in every contest but the season opener. In addition, she leads the PSAC and is sixth nationally in blocks per game (3.7) and total blocks (74). With 74 blocks on the season, she is eight away from breaking the school record for most blocks in a season. She's also the conference leader in rebounds per game and is ninth in Division II with 11.3, and has collected 11 double-doubles for atop the conference and 15th in the country.
- Michaela Barnes also contributed 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting. After 8.8 ppg., and scoring double digits in 10 contests last season, the reigning PSAC West Freshman of the Year has contributed double figures in 15 games this year and is fourth on the team in scoring with 12.5 ppg.
- Michelle Jahn scored 15 points against the Vulcans, including a career-best 9-for-10 from the charity stripe. She needs 61 points to join the 1,000-point club at Edinboro University. She also has climbed to sixth place on the all-time 3-pointers made list. The junior guard has 175 and needs four more to move past Lauren Hippo into fifth place. Jahn has been Edinboro's top 3-point shooter, converting 43-of-125 baskets from beyond the arc.
Scouting the Griffins
- Seton Hill posted its 17th win of the year over the weekend at Slippery Rock, 75-65, marking it the program's winningest season in five years. since the 2012-13 season campaign when they won 19 games. With a 17-6 overall record and a 12-5 mark in the PSAC West, the Griffins have been one of the hottest teams in the PSAC since early December. Entering their contest at Edinboro on January 3, they had won six straight. While the Fighting Scots won in a 90-70 decision, they responded with another 6-0 win streak. They are 8-2 since the Edinboro contest, but a buzzer beating shot by Gannon last Wednesday prevented them from winning 9 of their last 10 games.
- The Griffins were picked to finish fourth in the PSAC West coaches' preseason poll. Reigning PSAC West Coach of the Year Mark Katarski has Seton Hill with the fourth best record in the West Division. With five more wins, Seton Hill will make its fifth straight PSAC Tournament and will have made the playoff since Katarski became head coach and the programs inaugural season in the PSAC.
- Seton Hill is scoring the fourth-most points in the PSAC with 75.9 points, but have alllowed 67.5 points per game for 10th.
- When it comes to the turnover battle, Seton Hill gives up the ball 12.6 times per game, which leads the conference and is 14th nationally. The Griffins love to shoot the ball from behind the arc, making 8.4 3-pointers per game for first in the conference and 14th in Division II. In addition, they have made and attempted the most 3-pointers in the PSAC on 193-for-572 shooting. The 193 made 3-pointers ranks 14th in Division II and the 572 attempts is 13th nationally.
- Senior Jenna Kaufman leads the Griffins in scoring with 18.3 points per game. The 5'11" guard/forward is also the team's leading rebounder, grabbing 7.8 rpg., and is the second-best free throw shooter with an 81.9 percent (86-for-105) clip. She is second in the PSAC in free throws made and is third in double-doubles with nine.
- Freshman Cheyenne Trest is second on the team in scoring with 15.2 points per game. She's the team leader in assists (73) and blocks (14). Her free-throw's made (104-for-123) is second in the PSAC. She has also made 26-of-28 free throws over the last five contests, including 15 straight at one point. The 5'7" guard has been named PSAC West Freshman of the Week on eight occasions this season, including six of the first seven weeks of the campaign.
- Alexandra Hay is the third Griffin to average doubles figures this season with 12.4 points per game. She leads Seton Hill in three-point shooting, with a 37.4 percent mark (49-for-131) from behind the arc. She has registered a team-best 32 steals and is one of three Seton Hill players to eclipse 100+ rebounds this year.
